Types of decking
-
Wood decking
A traditional wood deck is usually constructed of Redwood or Cedar. These softwood species have been used in exterior construction in North America for over 100 years. Our redwood and cedar decks are more economical than some composite and exotic hardwood options and tend to create a more rustic appearance.
-
Exotic Hardwood
Our exotic hardwood deck materials range from Ipe and Tigerwood to Red Balau and Mahogany. These products are highly desired due to their incredible natural beauty, durability, and almost complete lack of knots. We stock the largest amount of exotic hardwoods than any other supplier in the state of Colorado.
-
Composite Decking
Composite decks are made of artificial materials consisting of a mix of plastic and organic filler, like rice hulls. Our composite decking materials require very little maintenance. Sweep ’em off, rinse ’em down and that’s it for most composite products. No more paint or stain with one of your synthetic decks.

decking FAQs
-
Cedar has the smallest environmental footprint of any other building material. Additionally, it is both renewable and biodegradable. Cedar is an incredibly strong yet lightweight material that allows any homeowner or contractor to shape their deck into any design that he or she chooses. There are different grades of cedar, so give us a call to learn what grade is best for you. When a timelessly natural look is the top priority for a homeowner, cedar decking is an easy choice!

Exotic hardwood decking has three main advantages over all other decking materials:
Unparalleled Beauty
The distinctive grains and colors that are found in exotic hardwood are impossible to beat. Regardless of the look desired- contemporary, rustic, or distinctive – there is an exotic hardwood species that will accommodate the project.Durability
Exotic hardwoods are considerably more dense and durable than ANY other wood decking. These woods will endure abuse from patio furniture, grills, pets, and foot traffic far better than cedar or redwood.Quality
Exotic hardwoods naturally have very few branches. This results in a finished piece of lumber that has almost no knots or is “clear” as we say in the lumber business. In addition to the lack of knots, all of our exotic hardwood decking is kiln-dried. That means each piece of decking will be more stable with less warping, twisting, or crooking. -
During the drying process, the ends and surfaces dry first and this means that they shrink. But, the core remains swollen. The different rates of drying cause cracking at the ends and surface of the lumber. This reaction is called “checking”. Why does this matter? A relatively small amount of checking is deemed acceptable under the grading rules for lumber and the amount allowed varies by grade. The amounts allowed are based upon the effect that these defects have on various strength properties of wood.

Composite decking materials are pretty resilient. Clean your deck at least twice each year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt, or stains. Generally, a broom or a blower will work better than a hose for removing scattered organic materials like leaves. Over time, especially with kids and pets, the deck may become soiled. Dislodge accumulated dirt with a broom or by using soap and water with a scrub brush. Scrubbing in the direction of the grain is best. Afterward, thoroughly rinse off the entire surface with a garden hose.
